Xtra Laundry Detergent Review
Xtra laundry detergent is a fairly new brand on the laundry detergent market. Their brand statement of bringing all fragrances to ‘life’ shows the emphasis on variety in fragrances they place. This is a cost-effective brand to use, especially when coupled with the multitude of coupons they’re always offering on their website.
Available easily from the majority of drug and food mass stores, Xtra detergents can be used in both top-loading and front-loading machinery. They’ve also been designed for usage with a range of temperatures.
Xtra laundry detergent’s product range involves about eight differently scented liquid detergents alone. The innovative scent blends include:
- Lavender and Vanilla
- Tropical Passion
- Calypso Fresh
- Summer Fiesta
- Spring Sunshine
Recently, they’ve been marketing a new scent called ‘Mountain Rain.’ They also have 4 different ‘Nice n Fluffy’ fabric softeners in their catalogues at the moment. You can draw on the amount of creativity and experimentation they’ve gone into with developing the range of scents they offer. Other products offered by Xtra are their super-strength OxiClean and ColorSafe alternative to bleach.
Xtra Detergent Washing Technology
The brand employs a ‘layered-scent’ system in their products. This is supposed to spread consistent fragrance in your clothes straight from your washer to the dryer and enable freshness to last longer in clothes. This system is complemented by the relevantly scented fabric softeners.
Their innovative ColorSafe bleach contains a chelating agent that’s basically milder than pure bleach and has been coupled with oxygen-based bleaching ingredients. It has successfully been used by customers on washable fabrics that are coloured and white. However, you should still check the garment labels for appropriate instructions on laundry before using this on it. None of Xtra’s products make use of biological washing enzymes.
Pros & Cons
In spite of the slight over-emphasis on scented liquid detergent and variety of scent that this brand places, we did find that most of the scents offered were light in smell, a.k.a nice yet not overwhelming. This is definitely preferable to most over strong detergent smells that could stick around for days.
The quality of washing is what most will have qualms with, to be honest. It’s barely up to standards. Dirty clothing, soiled kids’ clothing or heavy work uniforms will be frustrating to wash with Xtra and may need up to 6 consecutive washes. Even removing a simple ink stain took us 3 washes. That’s a lot of detergent powder wasted. It seemed to be the rather runny and diluted consistency of the detergent that was causing this. On the other hand, it certainly is cheap with each gallon priced at a mere four dollars.
What you get with Xtra Laundry Detergent is just more quantity for the money you’re paying. However, the extra quantity received is a bit pointless when you end up having to use several cups of Xtra laundry detergent on each load of washing. No self-respecting laundry detergent constantly requires multiple washes of semi-dirty clothes to get them satisfactorily clean. The standard is 1 cup and 1 wash. Besides that, we do admit that Xtra laundry detergent is very light on the pocket and smells fantastic too. We’d recommend using this product only if you’re on a tight budget and are looking to save money.
